Aoyama Kei - Strobelight

Just to announce, my current project, and my very first at that, is to translate Strobe light, a manga by recently deceased manga-ka Aoyama Kei. Kei committed suicide a few months ago, foreshadowed by a post on her twitter announcing she lived a fulfilling life. Not even well known in her own country, Kei is seldom translated into English. However, with so few releases under her belt it isn't like one needs to fill up a huge legacy. I enjoy her work most of all for how she pens the girls, in a way I find is irresistible and attractive. They are quite charming, and the art style is down to earth, simple, yet still given enough detail to not be boring. The themes for Kei's manga are usually slice of life.

Strobe Light is a manga I picked up by chance seeing as it was Kei's most recent work at the time. I was drawn in first by "China Girl"(which has already seen a scanlated release) so seeing as she had another manga out there I jumped head first for it. Strobe Light is a writer's account of his experience with one of his ex-girlfriends in college. Things take the I've enjoyed it very much, and I hope you will too. Look forward to the chapters coming out on this blog!
